Rep Plot Designs

During my junior year, I had the opportunity to create the lighting design for three student projects in the Underground blackbox theatre at Loyola. Since they were short student projects with minimal lighting looks, I used a basic repertory plot for a thrust set up.

RATS: THE MUSICAL

Devised by Maggie Smith

RATS was a project close to my heart. I was a part of the project from the very beginning, and was added on as the Lighting/Sound designer, as well as a member in the devising room. As a parody of CATS, we rewrote six songs and added scenes in between. Each song got a different lighting look, plus a base look we went back to during the scenes.

A TIME TO HEAL

Devised by David Taylor

When I got asked onto this project to do some quick lighting looks, I discussed the lighting goals with David and when he wanted cues, and then started programming before the tech rehearsal that night. Each type of scene had a different look, and I created a cue list for the stage manager to use during the run of the show.

ALONE IN THIS CITY

WE'VE BECOME

Devised by Grey Smith

After meeting with Grey to discuss placement of cues and general vision, I programmed a few lighting looks before a single tech rehearsal with the cast and stage manager. We used the basic looks to fill in the play, ultimately resulting in about 50 cues. I then created a cue list for the stage manager to use during the performance of the show. (Neither Grey nor I remembered to take pictures)
