PROCESS

While I had worked in the scene shop as an assistant scenic charge artist my freshman year, DOMESTIC was the first time I was the official Scenic Charge, on top of scenic designing the show. Since it was the first production of my sophomore year, most of the design process actually happened in the spring before, which overlapped with my work on 1984. The main goals of this production were creating a base set look for three plays spanning a century, all focused on domestic abuse, and to create a space in the round in our underground lab theatre. It was really important for me to depict an explosion out of the domestic sphere, indicative of women rising out of their abuse.
